WK4: Images & Tables

Create a WordPress page (2 points)

  1. Log into your WordPress account (your address/wp-admin)
  2. Go to “Pages” in your left-hand menu and choose “Add New”
  3. Title your work and save it (save it as a draft or choose Publish and go back and edit it)

Add media to your page
Put your masthead on your page; alternately, you may choose to change your WordPress header to your masthead (5 points)

  1. Hover over “Media” and choose “Add New” if you want to put items into your Library; for a quicker option choose “Add Media” just above your text entry window.

  2. You may need to “Save Draft” prior to taking this step; if you don’t you may be notified that you are moving away from the page. Don’t worry. Save your work!

Add explanation
Your masthead should be visually pleasing and make sense in light of the type of project you’d like to work on: explain what you wish to do: personal site; work-related site; selling or promotion. This explanation should be at the top of your page under the graphic. (4 points)

  1. I recommend you use GIMP
  2. I further recommend you use the masthead you created earlier in the week
  3. Can’t remember? See http://cits222.community.uaf.edu/m3/ under the title “Use Open Source for image editing”

Create a table
Create a table that is three columns wide by five rows tall using the HTML code from chapter six of your textbook (4 points)

  1. In order to do this you will need to toggle to the “Text” view inside of WordPress; it’s at the top right of your text entry window.

Type your HTML code here. For some of the work you’ll do there are shortcuts (b for bold, i for italics, etc.); you have to type out the table code.Screen Shot 2014-01-13 at 2.57.34 PM
Notice there is no <table> <tr> <td> codes
  2. Once you’ve built your table, save your work and view your page.

Put interesting information in your table (2 points)
I don’t think my table above has interesting information. So I’d only give myself 1/2 for this. Here’s something interesting = http://www.colorcombos.com/

Include commentary at the end of your WordPress page about the two chapters you read: what did you like; what did you try out; what did not make sense? (3 points)

I’m not going to make suggestions for this part. However, you should make sure your commentary is long enough to warrant three whole points (smile). Are you a bit curious about the wording “OLD CODE” on pages 137-138?
